HP Freeman PNI and NCBC to Offer Training and Certification at Las Vegas Conference

January 21, 2015 — The Harold P. Freeman Patient Navigation Institute (HPFPNI) is pleased to announce an upcoming joint offering with The National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC) at the 25th Annual Interdisciplinary Breast Center Conference in Las Vegas in March 2015. HPFPNI will offer training based on the Harold P. Freeman model of patient navigation on Tuesday, March 17 and the NCBC will administer the certification exam on Wednesday, March 18.

The collaboration of these two highly regarded professional organizations will allow an individual to combine the compassionate practicality of navigation training with the validation attained through a three-hour test for accredited certification.

The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) calls for the presence of a navigation program in all Breast Centers by January of 2015. With the deadline here, this partnership creates a path for navigators to prepare and validate their capabilities.

Those who register to take the Navigator Certification at the conference are eligible to receive the $545 member rate for the conference, with those signing up for the conference receiving a $100 discount on the Patient Navigation course. The Gold Standard
The concept of patient navigation was founded and pioneered by Harold P. Freeman in 1990 for the purpose of eliminating barriers to timely cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care. A critical window of opportunity to apply patient navigation is between the point of an abnormal finding to the point of resolution of the finding by diagnosis and treatment.

Currently the patient navigation model has been expanded to include the timely movement of an individual across the entire health care continuum from prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, and supportive, to end-of-life care.
