Harlem, NY, October 18, 2010 — The Harold P. Freeman Patient Navigation Institute is accepting applications for its new online educational program designed to provide convenient, self-paced instruction to those interested in learning and deploying its signature patient navigation model. The concept of patient navigation was founded and pioneered by Harold P. Freeman in 1990 for the purpose of eliminating barriers to timely cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care. It has since expanded to include the timely movement of an individual across the entire health care continuum from prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, and supportive and end-of-life care for cancer, in addition to other chronic diseases. The HP Freeman Patient Navigation Model has become the gold standard for employers of patient navigators.
The 9-module, 11-hour online program will deliver the same comprehensive skill sets and core competencies found in the existing instructor-led educational program, fully satisfying the patient navigation requirements of leading healthcare providers, clinical groups, and other organizations. Built-in videos and real-life, scenario-based case studies will place students in day-to-day situations, identifying barriers and finding solutions.
Upon completion of the asynchronous online program (cost of $1,500 per person), students will earn a certificate of completion from Dr. Harold P. Freeman and be able to access relevant learning resources and support material via the Harold P. Freeman Patient Navigation Institute's website. Online classes start twice a month. Those with compassion, intelligence, communication skills, and cultural sensitivity who are interested in becoming patient navigators can apply to take the course here.
